Man With A Movie Camera - an outdoor showing at Ebrington Barracks, Derry

Some things are just super cool, and you'll go and see even in the cold and damp Derry air. So, this Saturday I headed into the big smoke (North West style) to see a showing of Man With A Movie Camera as part of Cinema City.

Ebrington Barracks has been the venue for a number of outdoor film showings - yes, you've read correctly, outdoor cinema in Derry in November. Yes it was cold, fortunately it was dry. There were a few technical hitches too, but all got sorted in the end. I apologise for the grainy photo, but I wanted to give some sense of the film projected onto the building facade, and there was just something very magical about it all.

I first visited Derry at the age of 18, back in the early 1980's. Despite being from Lurgan (which had plenty of problems of its own) the run-down state of Derry shocked me.

On Saturday night, I walked across the strikingly beautiful Peace Bridge, and stood in the middle of Ebrington Barracks watching an outdoor showing of a fabulous arthouse film. The Turner Prize nominees were on exhibition in a building on my right hand side, and Derry is the City of Culture 2013. WOW....

Cinema City is running all November in Derry as part of the City of Culture 2013. There are lots of events still to  come (see programme here) And, Foyle Film Festival here
