Happy Easter, and some upcoming arts festivals

The sun is shining in Ireland (even in Donegal), and it's a holiday weekend - wow! If you're not outside enjoying the heat, how about exercising the brain on some upcoming festivals in the North to counter all those Easter Egg calories? See below...

The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival - various events running 01-11th May see website Includes literature, music, dance, visual arts, comedy, theatre and spoken word events.

Islander Festival  - this isn't writing based, but it is showcasing music, art and craft, and County Fermanagh. So on all those accounts, I'm including it. It runs 2-5th May see here

The John Hewitt Spring Festival - this runs at the weekend Friday evening 16th May and all day Saturday 17th May in the lovely setting of Carnlough on the Antrim coast, see here. I attended this a few years ago, and had a great time - a really enjoyable and informative day of readings, interviews and writing, combined with fabulous scenery. Last but not least (for me), the meal provided was really, really good. If you can make it to the Antrim coast, it's a really worthwhile event with a dedicated and experienced organising committee. They also have a longer Summer School - details on the website.

And another, in Dublin this time.

Dublin Writers Festival 2014 - 17-25th May see here   'readings, discussions, debates, workshops, performance and screenings... poets, writers of fiction and non-fiction, lyricists, playwrights and screenwriters' tweets @dubwritersfest Preview article in The Irish Times
