Gee, I can't believe it's late summer already. So, what the are the writing opportunities that might tempt you this month? Here are a few ideas and deadlines.

The Stony Thursday Book - a poetry journal published annually, and this year's deadline is 08th August.  For more details see here

 

Abridged - accepts poetry and art for themed issues, the current call is for 0-37 Torquemada. The deadline is 31st August, see their website  for further details. 

North West Words Magazine - a new magazine of poetry, short story and flash. Deadline for issue 2 01st September, see further details here   To read issue 1 see here

Southword - a journal of the Munster Literature Centre, in the current submission period it seeks poetry in English or Irish, and short stories in Irish. Deadline 15th September, see here

The Irish Literary Review - open to submissions of poetry, flash, and short story. Online journal see details here

RTE Radio Sunday Miscellany - open submission of short essay scripts 700/50 words in length. Podcasts of the past radio shows are available here   For further submission details see here

Irish Independent, New Irish Writing - open submission (open to Irish, or Irish resident writers), publishes a short story and poetry monthly in the Saturday edition of the paper. Publication leads to a Hennessy award nomination. See further details here

The Moth - rolling submission period, takes poetry and short story (2,500 word max.). See here  and for those who write for children, there is the sister publication The Caterpillar. It also accepts both poetry and short story (1,000 word max.), see here

Number Eleven - short story (3,000 word max.) and flash - open submissions see here

The Weary Blues - poetry, short story (3,000 word max.), visual arts and photography - open submission see here

Burning Bush 2 - mostly publishes poetry, and some flash fiction  (max. 500 words). It is published twice a year, see details here

A New Ulster - seeks submissions of poetry, fiction and art, (adult and child) see here

The Bohemyth - an ezine that publishes poetry, short story (2,000 word max), flash fiction, and photography monthly. It issues on 7th of each month and  takes submissions 1st-23rd of the previous month see here  

Spontaneity Magazine - this is a relatively new online arts journal. It relies on writer response to features from past issues, and takes submissions of poetry, prose and visual arts. See submission details here  - rolling deadline. Latest issue for inspiration Issue 03 

The Floor Magazine - is looking for submissions of poetry, prose, photography and other art for its second issue. For more details see here
